SAS Explorer Blue or Red Metal Riser Takedown Recurve Bow with White Limbs

Overview:

The 66’’ Explorer is made for comfortable and accurate shooting. The riser is machined aluminum and it comes in either red or blue so that you can hit the range in style. The 66’’ version also reduces much of the “string pinch” that can be found on shorter models. This is great for archers that have longer draw lengths. The limbs are also interchangeable across 22, 26, 30, and 34 pounds.

Excellent beginner/intermediate bow.

Excellent beginner/intermediate bow. I wanted to try a heavier bow after shooting 20-25 lb longbows. Chose this one as it was offered during a "Today's deals" sale and got it for 89.99. The aluminum riser is well finished and the limbs match it perfectly. I got a 34 lb draw. Easy to assemble.
I am 5'2" and this bow, at 66", could be considered too big for me. However, my criteria is that if I can string it, I can shoot it. I can indeed string it with the aid of a bow stringer but this will be the limit on length for me. Fortunately I don't think I will even want another bow. The riser is cast and drilled for common accessories such as sight, stabilizer, arrow rest, etc. I added a stick-on arrow rest and finger savers to the string and so far that's all I need or want. Instinctive shooting has improved greatly since I got this bow. Mine likes 30" feather fletched wooden arrows best so far.

it's a perfect size bow for me

according to the weight chart, i qualify for a "small woman", so i picked the 26/27 lb draw weight. i'm 5'5", the bow shows up a bit shorter than me, which with the calculation from my arm span, it's a perfect size bow for me. it's quite comfortable to draw. and it's oh so pretty! very easy to put together too. the first time i shot it, i shot it for more than an hour straight and had so much fun. much better than when i used the shooting range's bows. it didn't come with an arrow rest (which, i dont think most come with one anyway) and didn't bother to get one. i just shoot slightly tilted all rogue-like, feeling like a badass. i get complements for it too.

Very nice, sturdy, light weight, all around good bow.

Review of Red SAS 36lb bow;
I really like this bow, it is easy to assemble and seems very sturdy and has strong straight limbs, string is okay for now. I put a $7 arrow rest on using the threaded hole on riser and a couple of nocks on the bowstring. Shoots very well and seems consistent.
To make quieter I (like others) put some soft Velcro on the ends of the limbs where the string hits, and a couple of rubber whisker dudes on the string. Now it is very quiet when the arrow is released. The bow is light weight and fun to shoot. With some practice and maybe a sight installed I will get better. Not bad at 20 yards, hardly any arrow drop with the cheap aluminum arrows (125gr tips) I bought for first tryout. In fact it hits hard enough to stick the target arrows in a pine tree and bend them from the impact, when I miss the target. Oops, need hay bales!!
I plan to get better light weight arrows and keep shooting as the weather gets better.
Bow Looks Pretty-- I bought the red riser bow and it is very nice looking with the white limbs. Very pretty if that matters to you, I have wrapped my whole bow in camo tape and camo -painted the red riser area for hunting. Now it is quiet and stealthy. Can always put back to stock.
I also plan to put a reel, fishing rest, and a fishing arrow for spring carp shooting, I am sure it will work well, plenty of power with a full 30 inch draw.
Hope this helps, great bow for the money.

Good quality bow for the price

I really like this bow. I've shot archery for years and a bow is like a bicycle or base ball glove-- it needs to fit the user. I've owned several bows in my life. This one just fits and works well. The accuracy is fine and the shooting smooth. It's not as heavy as other metal-riser bows I've used and the grip is comfortable (no sharp edges cutting into the palm). Quite pleased with the purchase. The accessories are icing on the cake.
