Pistol Crossbows
A pistol crossbow — also called a mini crossbow — packs real crossbow power into a compact, one-handed frame you can shoot in the backyard. Every SAS pistol crossbow below is an 80 lb self-cocking model: a break-action lever cocks the string for you, so there's no rope cocker to carry and no foot-in-the-stirrup struggle between shots. Load a bolt, aim, and shoot again in seconds.
Whether you want an affordable first crossbow for target practice, a fast-shooting plinker, or a compact small-game setup, there's an SAS model built for it — starting at just $49.99.
Why Shooters Choose a Self-Cocking Pistol Crossbow
- Fast follow-up shots — the self-cocking break action reloads with a simple push of the lever, much faster than a traditional pistol crossbow you cock by hand.
- Compact and light — around 20 inches long, easy to store, carry, and shoot one-handed.
- Real speed — SAS models send bolts downrange at up to 160–185 FPS depending on the model.
- Beginner friendly — simple operation, and packages that include bolts and a practice target so you can shoot the day it arrives.
Which SAS Pistol Crossbow Is Right for You?
| Model | Draw Weight | Speed | Best For | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SAS Wrath | 80 lbs | up to 160 FPS | Beginners and backyard target shooting | $49.99 |
| SAS Prophecy | 80 lbs | up to 165 FPS | All-around shooting, red dot and bowfishing packages | $54.99 |
| SAS Rogue | 80 lbs | up to 185 FPS | Fastest in the lineup, Picatinny rail for grips, lights and lasers | $54.99 |
SAS Wrath — our best-value starter. The aluminum-body Wrath is self-cocking, comes with 3 bolts, and the packing box doubles as a practice target, so you're shooting within minutes of opening it. Available in Black and TC Camo.
SAS Prophecy — the all-rounder, based on the classic Cobra-system limb design. It has an adjustable rear sight with bead foresight and the widest range of packages: a red dot scope package, a magazine package, and even a bowfishing kit.
SAS Rogue — the fastest SAS pistol crossbow at up to 185 FPS. The bottom Picatinny rail takes a handgrip, bipod, flashlight or laser, and adjustable-stock versions let you shoulder it like a carbine. Includes 3 aluminum arrows.
Want everything in one box? Look for the package listings with 13–27 bolts, a spare string, and a carrying bag — cheaper than buying the extras separately.
Complete Your Setup
- Pistol crossbow bolts — SAS pistol crossbows shoot 6.5″ aluminum bolts. Stock up; bolts are the one thing you'll always run out of.
- Crossbow accessories — replacement strings, end caps, pistol crossbow bags and rail lube.
- Crossbow scopes — upgrade from iron sights to a red dot or scope.
- Archery targets — a proper crossbow-rated target stops bolts safely and saves your fence.
Pistol Crossbow FAQ
What is a pistol crossbow used for?
Target shooting and backyard practice are the most popular uses. An 80 lb pistol crossbow is also suitable for small game and varmint hunting where local regulations allow it.
Can you hunt with an 80 lb pistol crossbow?
For small game and varmints, yes, where legal. A pistol crossbow is not a deer or big-game bow — for that, look at our full-size 150–175 lb hunting crossbows. Always check your state or local hunting regulations before hunting with any crossbow.
How far can a pistol crossbow shoot?
SAS pistol crossbow bolts travel well past 100 feet, but practical, accurate target shooting is at backyard distances of roughly 10–25 yards. Speed depends on the model: 160 FPS for the Wrath, 165 FPS for the Prophecy, and up to 185 FPS for the Rogue.
What bolts do SAS pistol crossbows take?
Short 6.5″ aluminum pistol crossbow bolts. Using the correct bolt length matters — longer crossbow bolts are not interchangeable. Spare bolts, strings and bags are in our crossbow accessories collection.
Are pistol crossbows legal?
It depends on where you live. Some states, cities and countries restrict pistol crossbow ownership or use, and we cannot ship every model everywhere (for example, certain models cannot ship to Canada). Please check your local laws before ordering.
Is a pistol crossbow a toy?
No. At 80 lbs of draw weight and up to 185 FPS, these are real crossbows. Never dry-fire (shoot without a bolt), keep fingers below the rail, and always shoot into a crossbow-rated target with a safe backstop.
